Curricular Choirs

Cecillian Singers
Grade 9, sopranos and altos. Named after St. Cecilia, the patron Saint of music, Cecillian Singers is the initial choral experience for all freshman sopranos and altos. Meeting every day, emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of vocal technique and music literacy (understanding music notation). Through the study of a varied selection of choral repertoire from all historical periods, students will enhance their understanding of music notation and other elements of music. Participation in concert performances is required.

Bass Chorus
Grades 9+, tenors and basses. Bass Chorus is the initial choral experience for all freshman tenors and basses and is open to sophomore and upperclassman tenor and basses.  The ensemble meets daily as a bass ensemble and combines in rehearsal with the Concert Choir (see description below) to perform SATB literature.  Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of vocal technique as it applies to the changing voice, as well as music literacy. Through the study of a varied selection of choral repertoire from all historical periods, students will enhance their understanding of music notation and other elements of music.  Participation in concert performances is required.

Concert Choir
Grade 10+, sopranos and altos. Concert Choir is open to sophomore and upperclassman sopranos and altos.  The ensemble meets daily as a treble ensemble and combines in rehearsal with the Bass Chorus (see description above) to perform SATB literature. Emphasis is placed on intermediate vocal/choral techniques and notational abilities. Through the study of a varied selection of choral repertoire from all historical periods, students will enhance their understanding of music notation and other elements of music. Participation in concert performances is required.

Treble Singers
Grades 10-12, sopranos and altos.  Treble Singers is the most advanced treble choir open by audition.  The ensemble meets daily and performs the most challenging literature composed for upper voices.  Emphasis is placed on advanced vocal/choral techniques, music literacy and independence. Through the study of a varied selection of choral repertoire from all historical periods, students will enhance their understanding of music notation and other elements of music. Students are expected to be self-motivated and leadership oriented. Participation in concert performances is required.

Varsity Singers
Grades 10-12, sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.  Varsity Singers is the most advanced large mixed choral ensembles open by audition.  The ensemble meets daily and performs the most challenging literature composed for mixed voices.  Emphasis is placed on advanced vocal/choral techniques, music literacy and independence. Through the study of a varied selection of choral repertoire from all historical periods, students will enhance their understanding of music notation and other elements of music. Students are expected to be self-motivated and leadership oriented. Participation in concert performances is required.

Chamber Singers
Grades 10-12, sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.  Chamber Singers is the most advanced small mixed choral ensembles open by audition.  The ensemble meets daily and performs the most challenging literature composed for mixed voices.  Emphasis is placed on advanced vocal/choral techniques, music literacy and independence. Through the study of a varied selection of choral repertoire from all historical periods, students will enhance their understanding of music notation and other elements of music. Students are expected to be self-motivated and leadership oriented. Participation in concert performances is required.

Honors Chamber Singers
Seniors enrolled in Chamber Singers may be eligible to take one of these courses for weighted credit. In addition to meeting all the criteria for the standard course, senior students eligible for a weighted grade will create a performance and research portfolio which will include four small ensemble per­formances with a comprehensive written critique: two evalua­tions of concert programs: and tangible evidence of leadership activities leading to substantial musical achievement. Students may prepare auditions related to college applications in lieu of the fourth small ensemble performance. Audition and instruc­tor’s permission required. Honors Chamber Singers is available for 12th Graders only
